I am so honored to be taking part in the One Room Challenge this year and am exited to take you along on my journey! Each week for the next eight weeks, I will be sharing our progress, products, lessons learned, and all the fun that comes along with home renovation. This week, enjoy our “before” phots (lol!) and my design plans, along with some of my inspiration for the space…

THE DESIGN PLAN

Our vibe is Rustic Industrial: clean lines, dark grays, black metal, + copper, warmed up with rustic tile, granite, and natural wood tones. We want the look of this outdoor space to stay true to the rest of our home, and these finishes fit right in! We will be building an outdoor galley kitchen with one side being a large bar area with seating all around to accommodate as many people as possible! With our baby arriving any day now, we know that our home will be filled with guests as soon as it’s safe and want to make sure we have lots of space. As of right now, we are using a gray slate tile on a majority of the lower cabinet surfaces and copper sheeting on the interior of the large bar to mix it up. We selected a somewhat bold granite in dark gray and cream; we know granite holds up really well to the outdoor elements and want something long-lasting. The accent wall lighting will be black industrial sconces, and we are designing a custom chandelier to hang over the bar. We will be building a wall on the edge of the sink area to close in the space (and to shelter the t.v. we want to hang in that area!) and we’ll be designing some built-in niches or shelves. We’ve got a few stainless cabinet pieces going on, too, because storage is a big concern for us out here. And we will be painting the ceiling a dark gray to make the space feel cozier and a bit more dramatic.

We are only just beginning and I have already changed a few things up…I love seeing how new spaces unfold, and I definitely have learned to listen to my intuition, even if it means making some big edits along the way.
